Tether Cracks Transparency Code with Landmark Big Four Audit
Tether has finally put to rest years of criticism over its opaque reserves by announcing the completion of an independent audit, conducted by KPMG U.S., one of the most respected Big Four accounting firms in the world.
The audit, which Tether describes as 'the largest inaugural audit in financial history,' verified all declared assets and physically counted every gold bar held by the company. The auditors also subjected all assets and financial statements to independent verification testing.
Tether's balance sheet reveals a staggering scale rarely seen for a private company in the crypto ecosystem, with nearly $60 billion in Bitcoin within its reserves, making it one of the largest institutional BTC holders in the world. It also holds more U.S. Treasury bills than some sovereign nations and has significantly built up its gold positions in recent years.
The audit comes as a potential structural turning point for the entire stablecoin market, with Tether now positioning itself as a benchmark player capable of meeting the transparency standards that U.S. and European regulators are increasingly imposing on the stablecoin sector.
