Tether Engages Big Four Firm for First Full Independent Audit
Tether, the issuer of the USDT stablecoin with a market capitalization exceeding $184 billion, has taken a significant step towards greater transparency by engaging a Big Four accounting firm for its first full independent audit.
The audit will cover Tether's full financial statements, moving beyond periodic attestations that have been standard practice across the stablecoin sector. This marks a shift in how the world's largest stablecoin issuer approaches financial disclosure and oversight.
The review is expected to examine Tether's reserves, liabilities, and internal controls at a level of scrutiny typically associated with large global financial institutions. The onboarding process reportedly involved a detailed review of the company's systems, financial reporting practices, and governance structures.
Chief Executive Paolo Ardoino said the move reflects efforts to align the company with higher standards of financial scrutiny, while Chief Financial Officer Simon McWilliams noted that the firm was selected following a competitive process. This decision comes at a time when regulators and market participants are increasingly demanding stronger transparency from stablecoin issuers, particularly those operating at systemic scale.
