Tether Expands into AI, Betting on Its Global Reach

Tether is expanding its operations into artificial intelligence, building on its existing user base of over 650 million worldwide.

The company's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, sees AI as a natural extension of Tether's stablecoin business, particularly in regions such as Africa and South America where people use dollar-linked assets to hedge against inflation or unstable local currencies.

Tether is focusing on creating lightweight AI tools that can run on ordinary smartphones, aiming to bring practical applications to users who may have limited access to advanced digital infrastructure.

The company's push into AI comes as it seeks to put questions about its reserves behind it. A recent KPMG review confirmed that Tether's reserves exceeded liabilities by $6.8 billion, giving the company more room to focus on its next phase.

Tether currently has a USDT supply of around $183 billion and is betting that its existing network can become a distribution channel for AI and other infrastructure beyond crypto.
