Tether Freezes $550M in Iran-Linked USDT as Stablecoins Face Sanctions Enforcement
Tether, the stablecoin issuer, has cooperated with US authorities to freeze approximately $550 million in Iran-linked USDT during 2026. This move comes as the US tightens sanctions on Iran's financial networks, putting stablecoins under closer watch.
The action is part of Tether's cooperation with more than 340 law enforcement agencies across 67 countries that has led to about $4.9 billion in frozen assets.
In April 2026, Tether helped US authorities freeze over $344 million in USDT across two wallets, followed by a freeze of over $130 million in July 2026 across four wallets.
