Tether Freezes $550M in Iran-Linked USDT Under Expanded Sanctions
Tether has announced that it helped freeze nearly $550 million in Iran-linked USDT this year. The company says it acted on information from the U.S. Treasury Department's Office of Foreign Assets Control and U.S. law enforcement to freeze more than $344 million across two addresses in April.
The frozen assets were linked to the Central Bank of Iran and other sanctioned networks, according to Tether. The U.S. Treasury has expanded its authority to target foreign individuals and companies operating in or supporting sectors of Iran's economy, including digital assets.
Tether also reported freezing an additional $130 million across four TRON wallets in July. This brings the total amount of USDT frozen by the company this year related to Iranian sanctions to approximately $550 million.
