Tether Freezes $550M in USDT Linked to Iran Sanctions Networks
Tether, the popular stablecoin issuer, has frozen over $550 million in USDT tied to Iran sanctions networks. According to Tether, this move was a result of cooperation with U.S. and international authorities.
The freezes occurred in April and July 2026, with the first one involving two addresses that were later added to the Office of Foreign Assets Control's (OFAC) Specially Designated Nationals List.
Tether has been cooperating with law enforcement agencies on more than 2,900 global investigations, including over 1,600 involving U.S. authorities.
