Tether Freezes Over $550 Million in Iran-Linked USDT Amid Tightened Sanctions
Tether has confirmed that it has assisted U.S. law enforcement and sanctions authorities in freezing approximately $550 million in Iran-linked USDT during 2026.
The move comes as the U.S tightens sanctions on Iran's financial networks, putting stablecoins under closer watch.
The company says its actions have helped freeze around $474 million in USDT linked to Iran's Central Bank and sanctioned networks through two major actions in April and July 2026.
Tether also froze an additional $75 million in smaller actions between January and September 2026, bringing the total to around $550 million.
