Tether Helps Freeze $550M in Iran-Linked USDT
Tether, the stablecoin issuer, has announced its assistance in freezing $550 million in USDT linked to Iran. The freeze targeted addresses connected to the Central Bank of Iran and its sanctions networks. In April, Tether helped freeze over $344 million across two addresses, followed by a July freeze of more than $130 million across four TRON wallets.
The actions are part of a broader cooperation between Tether and U.S. authorities, which has resulted in the freezing of over $4.9 billion in assets globally, including over $2.4 billion connected to U.S. authorities. Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, stated that 'Tether has consistently demonstrated that USD₮ is not a haven for sanctioned actors, terrorist organizations or criminal networks.'
Tether works with more than 340 law enforcement agencies across 67 countries and has supported over 2,800 investigations. The company's cooperation with authorities aims to strengthen crypto security, traceability, and regulatory compliance.
