Tether Locks Down Stolen Funds Hours After Circle
Tether has frozen 218,000 USDT linked to Bitget's stolen funds. This move came after Circle froze its own holdings in a separate incident related to the same theft.
The Tether freeze was initiated on September 25, just 7 hours and 18 minutes after Circle took action. The frozen amount was directly tied to the initial address associated with the Bitget theft through three intermediary transaction steps.
It's worth noting that there is no indication of a direct delay or lag in the freeze process between the two stablecoin issuers. Instead, it appears that the freezes were implemented independently and simultaneously.
