Tether Posts Record-Breaking Net Profits Amid Stablecoin Boom
Tether, the largest stablecoin issuer by market share, has reported $13 billion in net profits for 2024, with $6 billion generated in Q4 alone. This significant milestone reflects both Tether's strong financial strategy and the growing demand for stablecoins in the cryptocurrency market.
The company's performance is backed by its record-breaking exposure to U.S. Treasurys, which reached a high of $113 billion, as well as its rapidly expanding USDT supply. The firm issued $23 billion in USDT in Q4, bringing the total issuance to $45 billion for the year.
Tether's excess reserve buffer has grown by 36% and now surpasses $7 billion, signaling a strengthened financial position and improved capacity to absorb market shocks. However, regulatory scrutiny and competition remain key challenges that could shape Tether's future.
