Tether has completed its first full audit by KPMG, one of the Big Four auditing and accounting firms. The auditor gave Tether's 2025 financial statements a 'clean' opinion, which is the most positive form of opinion an independent auditor can issue.

This comes after years of criticism from detractors who claimed that Tether refused to subject itself to rigorous scrutiny. Critics had questioned the authenticity of its reserves backing USDT and alleged lack of transparency in its reserve composition.

The audit was specifically for Tether International, one of the stablecoin issuer's subsidiaries. However, some critics remain unsatisfied, pointing out that the ownership structure of Tether still remains a mystery.
