Tether Secures First Full Audit, Exceeds Liabilities by $6.81 Billion
Tether has completed its first full financial statement audit, conducted by Big Four auditor KPMG U.S. The unqualified opinion on Tether International's S.A. de C.V.'s financial statements for the year ended December 31, 2025, is a significant milestone for the company behind USDT.
The audit examined the balance sheet, income statement, statement of changes in equity, and cash flow statement under U.S. generally accepted accounting principles. KPMG physically counted and inspected every individual gold bar Tether holds, verifying its existence and identifying information.
According to the audited statements, reserves exceeded liabilities by $6.81 billion. This is a major accomplishment for Tether, which has faced criticism in the past regarding its financial transparency.
Tether's CEO, Paolo Ardoino, said that completing the audit 'sets a new standard for the industry and reflects the leadership we've brought to this market from the start.'
The company had previously provided regular independent attestations of its backing assets, but an attestation only checks reserves at a point in time. The KPMG engagement covered the full financial statements.
