Tether Secures Unqualified Opinion from KPMG in Historic Financial Audit
Tether, the issuer of the popular USDT stablecoin, has completed its first full independent financial statement audit. The audit was conducted by KPMG U.S., which issued an 'unqualified opinion' on Tether International's financial statements for the year ending December 31, 2025.
An unqualified opinion is the most positive form of opinion that an independent auditor can issue, indicating that the financial statements were free from material misstatements or omissions. The audit covered all areas of Tether's financial position, including its reserves and liabilities.
Tether's CEO Paolo Ardoino described the audit as 'the largest inaugural financial audit in history,' with KPMG physically counting and inspecting every individual gold bar held by Tether to verify their existence and authenticity.
The audited financial statements showed that Tether's reserves exceeded its liabilities by $6.8 billion at the end of 2025, according to Simon McWilliams, Tether's chief financial officer.
