Tether Teams Up with Nairobi Exchange to Bring Blockchain to Kenyan Capital Markets
Tether has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE), aiming to bring blockchain-based capital market infrastructure and tokenized securities to Kenya. The partnership reflects a broader effort to modernize one of Africa's largest stock exchanges while expanding access to digital financial services for local and international investors.
The collaboration will explore tokenization, focusing on how distributed ledger technology can support the creation and trading of tokenized securities. Tether's Hadron platform is expected to be used to enable the issuance and trading of these assets. The initiative also includes examining instant settlement mechanisms that could replace the exchange's current multi-stage process.
The agreement places significant emphasis on investor education, with plans to launch training programs, workshops, and educational initiatives for retail investors and brokerage firms listed on the exchange. These efforts aim to improve understanding of blockchain technology, tokenized assets, and digital capital markets while encouraging broader participation among Kenyan investors and members of the country's global diaspora.
