Tether, TRON, and TRM Labs Unite Against Crypto Crime with T3 Financial Crime Unit
Tether has launched a private sector crime unit in collaboration with TRON and TRM Labs to combat illicit activity on the TRON blockchain. The new unit, called the T3 Financial Crime Unit (T3 FCU), aims to prevent the misuse of USDT, the largest stablecoin by market capitalization.
The T3 FCU has already made a significant impact, freezing over $12 million linked to scams. This move comes as USDT usage surges, with transaction volume surpassing that of Visa in some countries where people are turning to USDT as a hedge against inflation.
Tether's involvement in crime-fighting efforts is not new. Earlier this year, they helped the U.S. Department of Justice recover $5 million in USDT. The T3 FCU brings together expertise from TRM Labs, a top blockchain intelligence firm, and TRON, a major player in the blockchain world.
The focus on TRON is current, but if successful, similar efforts may be implemented on other blockchains. This initiative could be a game-changer for the crypto industry, building trust by catching bad actors and promoting a safer community.
