Tether's Sanctions Enforcement Figures Under Scrutiny
Tether, a leading stablecoin issuer, announced it helped freeze approximately $550 million in Iran-linked USDT during 2026.
This figure was cited by Tether as evidence of its cooperation with US sanctions enforcement. However, an on-chain analysis provided by BitOK puts the combined amount at roughly $474.3 million, which is lower than the stated total.
Tether did not explain why its figure includes an additional $75-76 million that was not disclosed in its release. The company's broader cooperation with authorities has resulted in more than $4.9 billion in asset freezes globally.
