Tether's USDT at Center of Senate Report on Iran Sanctions Evasion
A recent U.S. Senate report found that 84% of cryptocurrency wallets linked to Iran and its affiliated forces mainly used Tether's stablecoin USDT for transactions.
The report, titled 'Tether Tied to Terrorism', analyzed blockchain records from June 2021 to August 2026 and discovered that 87% of Israeli-designated wallets mainly transacted in USDT, while 57% of U.S. Treasury-designated wallets did the same.
Senator Richard Blumenthal stated that USDT served as a 'highway' for Iran to evade sanctions and called on the U.S. Treasury and Justice Department to investigate Tether's practices.
Tether has denied any wrongdoing, stating that it works closely with U.S. authorities to freeze sanctioned wallets and highlighting its cooperation record with over 340 organizations in 67 countries.
