Thai Entrepreneurs Challenge Tether's Authority in $42.4M Frozen Funds Lawsuit
Two Thai entrepreneurs have initiated a court battle against Tether, a major player in the stablecoin market, after nearly $42.4 million of their USDT holdings were frozen.
The lawsuit was filed on August 31, 2026, and raises profound issues about power dynamics within the cryptocurrency ecosystem, revealing friction between stablecoin providers and user rights.
Tether allegedly overstepped its boundaries by blacklisting ten Ethereum addresses associated with the plaintiffs' USDT holdings on October 30, 2025, based on an informal tip from U.S. Homeland Security Investigations (HSI).
The plaintiffs contend that Tether's actions lacked a formal seizure warrant, which was secured months later, undermining the legitimacy of their funds' restriction.
