Thai SEC Introduces Travel Rule for Crypto Platforms

Share

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has introduced a new Travel Rule for supervised crypto platforms. The rule, set to take effect on February 27, 2027, requires operators to collect and transmit information identifying individuals or entities behind coin transfers.

The SEC-supervised digital-asset operators must gather data on customers and their counterparties when coins are transferred. They also need to verify the qualifications of digital-asset service providers or intermediaries in the transfer route.

For transactions over 30,000 baht (approximately $9,700 USD), customers will be required to provide additional information, including the recipient's province or city and country. This is part of the regulator's efforts to enhance transparency and compliance with anti-money laundering regulations.
