Thai SEC Proposes Daily Stablecoin Transfer Cap of $151,000
Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission has proposed new stablecoin regulations that include a daily transfer cap of approximately $151,000 per person. The proposal aims to mitigate risks associated with money laundering and cybercrime by limiting deposits and withdrawals to verified accounts.
The one-way transfer limit is designed to strike a balance between regulatory oversight and operational flexibility for licensed institutions. Transfers between regulated operators that comply with the Travel Rule would be exempt from this cap, allowing institutional and compliant-to-compliant transfers to continue without hitting the daily limit.
This move follows a broader global trend of regulators imposing stricter rules on stablecoin transactions. The Thai SEC is collecting feedback before finalizing the framework, which could set a template for other jurisdictions weighing similar limits.
