Thai SEC Proposes Strict Rules for Bitcoin and Ether Spot ETFs
The Securities and Exchange Commission of Thailand has released draft rules for Bitcoin and Ethereum spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs). These proposed ETFs will be structured as mutual funds with at least 80% net asset exposure to a single digital asset. This is a significant step in regulating crypto ETFs in Southeast Asia.
The proposed framework mandates passive investment strategies, licensed digital asset custodians for custody and governance standards, and listing only on the Stock Exchange of Thailand. The consultation period ends May 11, with implementation expected in Q3 2026.
