Thailand Imposes Crypto Travel Rule Deadline Amid Global Compliance Push
Thailand has given its cryptocurrency industry a firm deadline to comply with new regulations. The country's Securities and Exchange Commission has finalized its version of the crypto Travel Rule, which requires digital asset operators to collect and verify information about both parties in a transfer.
The rule takes effect on February 27, 2027, giving operators roughly six months to build the necessary systems to comply. Under the new framework, Thai crypto platforms must confirm who controls a wallet, as well as keep detailed records of transactions for five years.
The regulation mirrors a global trend, with roughly 83% of jurisdictions surveyed by the Financial Action Task Force having already enacted similar legislation. Thailand's move is designed to mitigate the potential for digital asset operators to facilitate money laundering and the financing of terrorism.
