Thailand Streamlines Crypto Derivatives Access with New SEC Proposal

Thailand's Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed changes to its rules for crypto derivatives, aiming to simplify access to the regulated market. Currently, firms must establish separate legal entities to obtain a derivatives license, but the new proposal would allow applications to be filed within existing corporate structures.

The goal is to expand investor access to hedging tools and portfolio management instruments, according to the SEC. The proposed changes also include new requirements for managing conflicts of interest for firms operating in both digital asset and derivatives activities.

The move follows earlier rule changes that recognized digital assets as eligible underlying assets for futures contracts. Industry participants are expected to submit feedback by May 20, which will inform the final regulatory framework.
