The Sandbox Commits to $700K Refund After Bridge Exploit

The Sandbox has announced it will refund eligible users who lost SAND tokens in an August 21 bridge exploit that saw $700,000 drained from an Ethereum vault.

The company will compensate affected users with a 1:1 amount of Ethereum-based SAND from its treasury, without minting new tokens.

The reimbursement process is expected to begin within two weeks and remain open for another two-week window. Two centralized exchanges will distribute funds directly to customers who hold eligible bridged balances.

The attacker exploited a configuration flaw in SAND's bridge-related contracts on Base and BNB Chain, enabling the minting of unbacked tokens.
