Thiel's $535M Bet on Cryptocurrency Mining Paying Off with 15% Share Surge
Bitmine Technologies' shares surged 15% on Wednesday after tech billionaire Peter Thiel revealed his significant investment in the cryptocurrency mining and services company. The Palantir co-founder now holds a 9.1% stake in Bitmine, making him its largest investor based on available data.
The stock price hike came as Bitcoin hovered near record highs and ether reached a five-and-a-half month peak. Bitmine's shares have gained over five-fold this year, with the company holding substantial cryptocurrency holdings worth approximately $535.5 million.
Thiel's investment aligns with growing institutional interest in cryptocurrency markets, with ether doubling in value over the past three months. The company has aggressively expanded its cryptocurrency holdings, including a $250 million private placement in June to launch an ethereum treasury strategy.
