THORChain Denies Responsibility for Processing Stolen Funds
THORChain has distanced itself from any responsibility in processing funds linked to the Bitget theft. The protocol argues that its decentralized and permissionless structure leaves no central authority to approve or block transactions, making it comparable to networks like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB Chain.
In a statement, THORChain questioned why these networks should be held responsible for handling funds identified as stolen, especially considering their own designs. The protocol also addressed OKX CEO Star and Bitget CEO Gracy Chen in the discussion.
However, some community members have challenged THORChain's position by pointing to a previous attack that led the network to suspend services for 39 days, arguing that this appears inconsistent with its current defense of permissionless operation.
