THORChain Faces Backlash Over Stolen Funds Routing
THORChain is facing criticism for its handling of stolen funds after Bitget and security researchers asked the network to block addresses linked to a September 24 exploit.
The attack saw $387.5 million in assets diverted to attacker addresses, with nearly all of them passing through THORChain's swaps before being transferred elsewhere.
Bitget CEO Gracy Chen formally requested that THORChain refuse service to the compromised accounts, stating that 'decentralization is a design principle, not a shield for facilitating known stolen funds.'
THORChain responded by pointing out its decentralized nature and comparing itself to other permissionless protocols like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
