THORChain Rejects Request to Block Hacker Wallets Amid $387.5M Hack Fallout
THORChain has pushed back against Bitget's request to block wallets linked to the $387.5 million theft last week, saying its emergency halts are not a tool for freezing specific funds.
In a statement on X, THORChain emphasized that it is 'decentralized and permissionless like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and BNB Chain,' meaning it does not censor by design.
Bitget's CEO Gracy Chen had asked the protocol to refuse service to addresses linked to the hack, calling decentralization a 'design principle, not a shield for facilitating known stolen funds.'
THORChain pointed out that during its own May exploit, in which $10.7 million was taken from its liquidity pools, the attackers' addresses were never blacklisted and therefore never prevented from swapping on THORChain.
