Three Crucial Concepts for Crypto Success in 2026 and Beyond
The cryptocurrency market has undergone significant changes in the past year, and investors need to understand three crucial concepts to succeed in 2026 and beyond: supply inflation, supply overhangs, and holders' revenue.
Supply inflation refers to the rate at which a cryptocurrency's supply increases. While some coins experience supply inflation by design, others may have countervailing mechanisms to prevent holders from being diluted. Dogecoin, for example, issues 10,000 new coins per minute, indefinitely, but has no mechanisms to prevent dilution. In contrast, Bitcoin has nearly reached its maximum supply of 21 million coins, and its reward schedule will add less than 1% to the circulating supply this year.
Supply overhangs can also threaten investors. Even if a coin's supply has a low inflation rate, a large pool of existing supply can still cause problems. Ripple, for instance, holds 36.7 billion XRP in escrow and operating wallets, which could be released into the market and cause price instability.
Holders' revenue is a key metric that describes the portion of a network's transaction fees returned to token holders through mechanisms like buybacks, burns, or payouts. Coins with significant holders' revenue, such as Hyperliquid, have a strong link between utilization of the chain and the growth of the native token.
