TikTok has agreed to pay $400 million to resolve allegations that it violated children's online privacy laws under the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).

The deal resolves claims that TikTok, ByteDance, and affiliated companies unlawfully collected children's data and improperly allowed account creation.

TikTok will pay $300 million immediately and another $100 million once a prior 2019 consent decree entered against Musical.ly is vacated.
