XRP Ledger's Permission Delegation Could Unlock Major Growth for RLUSD
Ripple's RLUSD stablecoin has reached a significant milestone, with its total circulating supply topping $2 billion. But what's behind this growth? According to Ripple stablecoin product lead Lauren Berta, a key feature of the XRP Ledger could be a major contributor: permission delegation.
Permission delegation is an upcoming XRP Ledger feature that allows issuers to delegate specific actions to separate accounts while keeping the issuer account secure. This means that different teams can have control over various functions such as minting, freezing, and trust line authorization without needing to share keys.
This separation of duties is crucial for regulated issuers, who often have multiple teams responsible for different aspects of asset management. Permission delegation will enable this operational structure for RLUSD on the XRP Ledger natively at the protocol level, distinct from multisig.
According to Berta, permission delegation solves a specific problem and does not mean giving up control. It's essential for stablecoin issuers, RWA tokenizers, and asset managers bringing regulated instruments on-chain, as it allows them to separate teams moving assets, enforcing compliance, and managing security.
