Todd Taps Slipstream as MARA Foundation Seeks to Unlock Bitcoin Innovation
Peter Todd, a well-known Bitcoin Core developer, has joined the MARA Foundation to oversee its private mempool service called Slipstream. This service allows users to bypass Bitcoin's public peer-to-peer relay network and send transactions directly to MARA's mining pool.
Slipstream has gained attention for handling non-standard transactions that fall outside standard Bitcoin relay policies, including large Ordinals inscriptions and certain transaction formats used in BitVM-related experiments. Todd's involvement with the service is seen as a way to further develop Bitcoin research and development infrastructure.
The MARA Foundation recently promoted Slipstream as a tool for experimental development and protocol innovation. Over 10,000 BTC has been transferred using the service since it was used by some multisig users while moving funds from affected wallets due to the recent Coldcard firmware vulnerability.
