Tokenization Enters Long-Duration Market Transition, SEC and S&P Signal Integration
Tokenization has reached a significant milestone in its adoption by traditional financial markets. According to Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan, tokenization is entering a longer phase of financial adoption, similar to the early stages of artificial intelligence's rise.
Hougan drew an analogy between the current trajectory of tokenization and NVIDIA's AI surge in 2022-2023. At that time, NVIDIA traded around $16, but reached $46 a year later, representing a 176% increase. Today, NVIDIA trades at $219.
The comparison highlights Hougan's view that blockchain-based financial rails can become a long-duration market transition. He notes that the SEC has opened a regulated route for tokenized stocks and S&P Global has agreed to acquire OpenZeppelin, which supports major stablecoins and DeFi applications.
