Tokenized Assets Continue to Grow Amid Crypto Market Slump
The cryptocurrency market has been struggling over the past year due to inflation, fears of interest rate hikes, and other macro challenges. Bitcoin's price has dropped from a record high of $126,000 last October to around $64,000, while Ethereum's price has fallen below $1,900 from its all-time high of nearly $5,000 last August.
However, one sector of the crypto market continues to grow despite the downturn: tokenized real-world assets (RWAs). According to CoinShares, deposits of RWAs on blockchains more than tripled year over year to $7.4 billion in the second quarter of 2026. Tokenized RWAs are physical or traditional financial assets digitized into tokens on a blockchain, making them easier to transfer and reducing middlemen.
This growth is driven by asset managers like BlackRock and major banks like JPMorgan Chase upgrading their financial rails to support tokenized assets. As Robinhood's tokenized stock trades have accelerated rapidly since the brokerage launched its own blockchain, Robinhood Chain, retail investors are becoming increasingly aware of tokenized stocks.
Investors can profit from the rise of tokenized RWAs by investing in stablecoin issuers, such as Circle, or tokenized commodities like PAX Gold. They can also invest in financial companies expanding into the nascent market, such as BlackRock and JPMorgan Chase.
