Tokenized Equities Hit $9 Billion as Off-Hours Trading Booms
Tokenized equities have reached $9 billion in value, driven by growing demand for trading outside traditional market hours. The rise of off-hours trading has been particularly pronounced, with 55% of trades using Jupiter's tokenized equity product occurring outside of regular market hours.
This trend is reflected in the growth of Nasdaq's trading volume, which will soon extend to nearly 23 hours a day, five days a week. The exchange plans to add a new session from Sunday evening to Friday morning, with a daily one-hour processing break.
Meanwhile, Kraken has opened U.S. stock trading to eligible European Economic Area (EEA) customers, providing them with access to over 7,000 stocks and more than 700 tokenized equities. This move is part of a broader trend of foreign market participation increasing in the U.S. equity market.
Vlad Tenev, a prominent figure in the industry, has argued that Americans risk missing out on innovation built around their own assets if they don't adapt to changing market conditions.
