Tokenized Real-World Assets Surpass $34 Billion in Value
The market for tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) has seen significant growth in recent months, with the total value of on-chain RWAs reaching $34.18 billion as of September 15. This represents an increase of 85.2% since the start of the year, according to a report from Binance Research.
The majority of this growth can be attributed to bonds and money market funds, which combined account for over three-quarters of the new value added to the market. Tokenized stocks also saw significant growth, increasing by 390.4% during the same period.
However, despite the growth in tokenization, the report highlights a gap between the migration of assets to the blockchain and their active use in financial applications. Currently, only approximately 0.01% of underlying assets have been tokenized, while around 12% of on-chain RWA value is actively utilized in liquidity pools, lending protocols, and collateral markets.
According to Binance Research, the next phase of growth for the RWA sector will require making tokenized assets usable within decentralized finance applications and integrating them more broadly into liquidity, lending, and collateral transactions.
