Tokenized Stocks and Futures Blur Line Between TradFi and Crypto Exchanges
The traditional stock market and crypto exchanges have long operated in separate worlds. Investors wanting to buy shares of mega-cap American companies like Apple, NVIDIA, or Microsoft needed a traditional brokerage account and local currency. Cryptocurrency traders, on the other hand, had access to global markets using stablecoins like USDT but were cut off from major equity markets.
That boundary has rapidly blurred with the rise of Real-World Asset (RWA) tokenization and traditional finance perpetual contracts (TradFi perps). Traders can now access U.S. stock exposure directly from a single crypto account using spot tokenized assets like rTokens or perpetual futures called Stock Perps.
rTokens are backed by 1:1 economic exposure to top U.S. stocks and ETFs, with tickers receiving an 'r' prefix, such as rAAPL, rNVDA, rTSLA, rMSFT, and rSPY. The architecture is designed to mirror the real U.S. stock market, with a multi-layered infrastructure that includes real asset backing by licensed broker-dealer Alpaca and independent verification from third-party firm The Network Firm.
During regular U.S. trading hours, the median two-sided resting depth for rNVDA within a ±2% price range reached approximately $4.1 million. This depth equaled nearly 75% of the spot depth of BTC/USDT on Bitget during the same period, demonstrating that tokenized equities can achieve institutional-grade execution quality.
