Tokenized Stocks Skyrocket on Blockchains Amid Warnings from IMF
Tokenized equities are experiencing explosive growth on various blockchains and platforms. According to Token Terminal data, tokenized versions of SPY, Google's stock (rGOOGL), and Robinhood's own stock (HOODb) have seen significant increases in market value over the past month.
SPY on Robinhood Chain has risen by 1,314% to an over $17.4 million market cap, while rGOOGL on Arbitrum has increased by 530.9% to $18.8 million. HOODb, also on Robinhood Chain, has climbed 428.7% to $5.7 million.
The growth is not limited to these top performers, with dozens of other tokenized stocks recording gains of at least 50% during the same period. Binance bStocks' MSTRb has become the largest asset by market capitalization among the top five listed by Token Terminal, reaching $53.8 million after rising 334.6%.
The International Monetary Fund has warned that tokenization can remove the settlement delays that give banks and regulators time to manage liquidity and intervene before problems become irreversible, but the efficiency gains come with less room to catch mistakes.
