Tom Lee Dismisses Ethereum Funding Crisis Fears: 'Zero Chance'
BMNR Chairman Tom Lee has dismissed concerns about an impending Ethereum (ETH) developer-funding crisis. On X, he posted 'zero chance' of such a scenario occurring and stated 'Funding secured'. This response was in reaction to a warning from former Ethereum Foundation contributor Trent Van Epps, who estimated that the network's more than 10 client teams, researchers, and coordination groups require around $30 million per year to operate. According to Van Epps, if this funding gap persists for three to nine months, it could have severe consequences, including the loss of experienced contributors and a decline in the mainnet's reputation for reliability.
In contrast, zkSync founder Alex Gluchowski has emphasized Ethereum as the 'only option' for institutional settlement. He cited Stripe's Tempo and JPMorgan's upcoming chain as examples of corporate networks that would struggle to achieve industry-wide adoption. This perspective highlights the ongoing debate within the crypto community regarding the future of Ethereum.
The Ethereum Foundation is currently dealing with a series of senior departures, including co-executive director Hsiao-Wei Wang, who stepped down on Thursday. This development marks at least the eighth high-profile departure from the foundation in 2026. The leadership reshuffle comes as the organization navigates its treasury plan to maintain solvency for the medium term.
