Tom Lee Sees Historic Q4 Rally, But Crypto Investors Should Be Cautious
Tom Lee, a prominent financial analyst, has made a bold prediction about the upcoming stock market rally. In an interview on September 15, he stated that the fourth quarter could be 'one of the biggest rallies' in history, with the S&P 500 reaching as high as 8,200 by year-end.
Lee bases his optimism on the assumption that a large pool of cash currently sitting in money-market funds will rotate back into riskier assets once investors gain clarity on the Federal Reserve's rate path. This could lead to a surge in stock prices, with technology stocks and the 'Magnificent Seven' expected to lead the charge.
However, not everyone shares Lee's enthusiasm. Ed Yardeni, another well-known analyst, has cut his year-end S&P 500 target from 8,400 to 7,900 and raised the odds of a bearish scenario from 20% to 30%. He points to higher energy prices and stubborn Treasury yields as key concerns.
Crypto investors should be cautious, as Bitcoin's correlation with the Nasdaq 100 has fallen sharply, while its relationship with gold has climbed to its highest level in years. Even if Lee's stock market forecast proves correct, a rising S&P 500 may not automatically lift digital asset prices.
