Tone Vays Hacked After Giving Remote Access to PC During Microsoft Teams Interview

Crypto educator Tone Vays has admitted to being 'an idiot' after giving hackers remote access to his PC during a Microsoft Teams interview. The incident occurred on August 11, 2026, when Vays was speaking with a group claiming to be a legitimate YouTube channel.

The hackers used the screen sharing function to download Trojan malware onto Vays' computer. When he realized what had happened, he immediately disconnected his PC and reinstalled his operating system without saving any files.

Vays noted that he didn't store any Bitcoin credentials or password details on his PC, but conceded that he was careless in granting access control permissions to the hackers.

In a comparison with fellow Bitcoin educator Jimmy Song, who had his Telegram account likely hacked by North Korea earlier this year, Vays emphasized the importance of being cautious when interacting with strangers online. He has since vowed to only conduct interviews with people he knows personally and avoid using software like Zoom or Teams in favor of web interfaces.
