Torres and Hill Weigh In on Crypto Policy After CLARITY Act Stalls
Crypto policy in Washington is on the agenda again after Reps. Ritchie Torres (D-NY) and French Hill (R-AR), two advocates from opposite sides of the aisle, discussed a potential comeback for the CLARITY Act.
The CLARITY Act, which aims to provide regulatory clarity for the crypto industry, had strong bipartisan support in the House but stalled in the Senate. Torres emphasized that regulatory clarity is essential for the growth of the crypto industry.
Hill countered by arguing that a statutory framework is necessary, rather than relying on regulatory exemptions. The two lawmakers also touched on topics such as protections for software developers, crypto tax rules, and how 'agentic' AI transacting on behalf of consumers could raise liability and consumer protection questions.
