Toyosa Adds Bitcoin as Payment Option for Toyota Purchases in Bolivia
Toyota vehicle purchases in Bolivia can now be made using Bitcoin, thanks to an announcement by Toyosa that it will accept the cryptocurrency as a payment option. This marks the expansion of Toyosa's digital-asset checkout service, which was introduced last year with USDT payments.
The company has partnered with Towerbank and BitGo to provide transaction processing, wallet infrastructure, security, and traceability for Bitcoin payments. While customers can pay with Bitcoin, it remains unclear whether Toyosa retains the cryptocurrency after each purchase or converts payments into fiat currency automatically.
Toyosa's introduction of Bitcoin as a payment option follows Bolivia's relaxation of its regulatory environment regarding cryptocurrencies. In 2024, the country removed its ban on processing crypto-related transactions through its financial system, and since then, virtual-asset transactions have surged, reaching $430 million in cumulative activity by June 2025.
