Toyota has become the first car dealership in Bolivia to accept Bitcoin as a payment method. On September 18, 2026, Toyota dealership TOYOSA announced at Expocruz in Santa Cruz that customers can now buy a Toyota using Bitcoin.
The move is part of a larger trend where consumer-facing businesses are treating Bitcoin as a practical settlement rail rather than just a speculative asset.
TOYOSA's Director of Artificial Intelligence, Edwin R. Saavedra, tied the launch to Bolivia's monetary history, referencing the silver coins of Potosi as an earlier chapter in money before Bitcoin.
