Treasury Debt Shift Could Fuel Bitcoin's Next Move: Fundstrat
Fundstrat's Sean Farrell believes that an upcoming Treasury announcement could be a 'explosive catalyst' for Bitcoin. The announcement, expected around November 2, will reveal the government's plan to fund itself through debt issuance. If the Treasury decides to reduce or suspend the issuance of long-term debt, it would likely shift borrowing towards shorter-term bills.
Farrell thinks this shift would lead to currency debasement, which has historically driven Bitcoin higher. He points out that the US government already carries a high debt-to-GDP ratio and a significant deficit. Reducing long-term debt issuance would be 'stimulative' and create more money in the private market.
Farrell also highlights the rapid growth of DeFi tokens, which have outpaced Bitcoin's performance over the past six months. He specifically mentions Solana, Aave, Uniswap, Aerodrome, and Kamino as beneficiaries of tokenization adoption. These tokens have seen significant price increases, with Uniswap leading the rally at 189%, followed by Aerodrome Finance at 157%.
However, Farrell cautions that a high share of tokens trading above their 200-day moving average can be a 'yellow flag' for investors. He advises keeping an eye on rate volatility and warns that market consolidation could occur if it fails to settle constructively.
