The U.S. Treasury Department has begun seeking public comments on implementing the GENIUS Act, landmark crypto legislation signed into law last year by President Donald Trump.

The Notice of Proposed Rulemaking aims to clarify when a stablecoin is considered 'issued' in the U.S., and when an issuer or service provider is offering or selling a payment stablecoin to a U.S. person.

Treasury welcomes input from industry participants and other stakeholders as it develops the regulatory framework, which will take effect on January 18, 2027.
