Treasury Settlement Sparks Repo Rate Concerns, Bitcoin Liquidity Risk
A massive $20.2 billion U.S. Treasury settlement on September 30 is causing concern about repo rates and potential liquidity shocks in the Bitcoin market.
The settlement involves reissuing several key-maturity securities, including 10-year inflation-protected bonds, 2-year bonds, 5-year bonds, and 7-year bonds, with a total face value of $202 billion.
On the same day, $143.58 billion in publicly held interest-bearing bonds will mature, resulting in a net increase in outstanding principal of $58.42 billion.
The Federal Reserve has stated that bank reserves remain ample and funding markets are orderly, but some market participants are still concerned about the potential impact on Bitcoin.
