Treasury Shift May Spark 'Explosive Catalyst' for Bitcoin
Fundstrat's Sean Farrell believes that an upcoming Treasury announcement on November 2 could be an 'explosive catalyst' for Bitcoin. He is watching whether the Treasury will cut or suspend the issuance of 10- to 30-year debt, which would shift more borrowing into shorter-term bills.
Farrell thinks this move would lead to currency debasement, driving up the price of Bitcoin. The US has a high debt-to-GDP ratio and a growing deficit, with 10-year yields at their highest level since 2007.
Farrell also sees tokenization benefiting several DeFi coins, including Solana (SOL), Aave (AAVE), Uniswap (UNI), Aerodrome (AERO), and Kamino (KMNO). These tokens have surged significantly in the past six months, with Uniswap up 189% and Aerodrome up 157%, compared to a 27% rise for Bitcoin.
Farrell warns that investors should be cautious, as the share of tokens trading above their 200-day moving average has pushed past 80%, which he treats as a warning sign. He also notes that rate volatility could lead to market consolidation, but expects drops of 40-50% to be unlikely.
Fundstrat co-founder Tom Lee makes a similar argument, suggesting the Fed may walk back its 'hawkishness' after Vice Chair John Williams pushed back on expectations of an October rate hike. This could be good for stocks and potentially beneficial for Bitcoin.
