Treasury's Bond Buyback Boosts Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs by $23 Billion
U.S. spot Bitcoin and Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs) saw a combined surge in assets under management (AUM), rising by approximately $23.3 billion in the week ending August 21, 2026, according to data compiled by SoSoValue.
BTC ETF assets climbed 25.4 percent from $76.6 billion to $96.1 billion, while ETH ETF assets advanced 35.9 percent from $10.5 billion to $14.3 billion. Net inflows totaled about $2.6 billion, with $1.92 billion into BTC products and $697.2 million into ETH funds.
The surge coincided with the U.S. Treasury's announcement on August 19 that it would double the maximum size of its longer-dated bond buyback operations to $4 billion per operation from a prior $2 billion cap, aimed at supporting liquidity in the 10- to 30-year segments.
