Treasury's Bond Buybacks Fuel Bitcoin Bull Run
The US Treasury's recent announcement of increased bond buyback limits has sent shockwaves through the cryptocurrency market, with Bitcoin surging to new heights.
Bond buybacks are a process by which the government purchases its own debt securities from investors, effectively injecting liquidity into the financial system. According to Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, this is exactly what's happening now, and it's driving the current bull run in Bitcoin.
Hayes points out that the Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has raised the limit on long-end bond buybacks from $2 billion to at least $4 billion per operation. This change was announced on August 19, and Bitcoin immediately responded by climbing over 8.7% to around $69,750-$71,000 within days.
The rally continued throughout the week, with Bitcoin reaching an intraday high above $81,000 on August 25 before settling closer to $79,000 as later reports came in. The move marked the strongest weekly advance the token had seen in months.
